Yarm Squash Club has a great history, from its beginnings in 1973 it has grown into one of the flagship clubs in the area. With some of the founder members still playing at the club, you will hear them talk of the days they served beer from a keg in the cupboard! Fortunately things have moved on and nowadays Yarm has all the latest technologies and some of the best courts around.
We have four newly refurbished, two with glass backs and all of which have viewing balconies. Our electronic booking system allows you to book and cancel courts on line.
Our social “club night” is Thursday evening, where members can come down and play some games. It’s a great place to start if you’re new to the club, or to come down and socialise with fellow members if you’re not so new. You always get to play different people, and it’s a good way to improve your game. Free tasters sessions are available, so please get in touch to arrange.
During the main season from September to May we run monthly ladder leagues, with a 2-up, 2-down format you’ll always be playing different people each month. During the summer, to keep your eye in, we have summer singles, doubles and racketball leagues.
We have a number of competitions throughout the year for all ages and abilities, starting with the handicapped tournament to kick the season off, a fun team handicapped competition at Christmas, and the main club championships in April to round the season off.
For those starting off their squash careers we have a number of England Squash qualified coaches at the club, and offer junior, ladies and adult coaching sessions.
Our four men’s teams and ladies team have enjoyed excellent success in the Durham and Cleveland leagues, with victories for the men’s first team in both 2014 and 2015 and the ladies in 2017, 2018 and 2019, so you’re guaranteed a high level of squash. For those feeling less competitive we also have a ladies friendly team
We have excellent bar facilities on site, so you can enjoy a well-earned drink after you’ve played. The bar has many social events throughout the year for all the family, including quizzes, BBQ’s and other seasonal celebrations. We also have a house band that play at social events during the year, learn a song and get your requests in and you might get to sing along!
We recently funding from Sport England, which has allowed us to improve our facilities immensely and we now have brand new changing facilities and a brand new entrance. In 2018 we also made significant investment on all four of our courts, including new floors and new walls.
Whether you’re a seasoned professional, or brand new to the sport, Yarm really is the place to play squash in the North East (well we think so anyway!)
