This season the club entered teams in the u13, u15 and u19 Durham and Cleveland junior leagues.
Thanks to those parents who offered to coordinate the teams this year ensuring there was plenty of opportunity for match practice for our juniors. Its a difficult task at times ensuring all fixtures can be played before the end of the season and the club appreciates the time given. Thanks!
The u19s league this season only had 3 potential fixtures with only a small number of teams entering this age category this year. Only managing to arrange one of the fixtures Sam, Will, Alex and Nikhil played at home against Nunthorpe and managed a good win with a score of 357 v 194. Shame they didn’t get to play the others but it wasn’t for the lack of trying!
After a slow start to the season the u15s managed to complete all their fixtures both home and away.
Teams of four were picked from Maddie, Sam, Daniel, Lucinda, Toby and Ryan. Against other strong teams from the area the u15s put all they had into some hard fixtures. The first game in February against Sedgefield at home ended with a close score and a narrow defeat with the home teams total points scored adding up to 265 and the away team acheiving 277! A really close fixture with some excellently fought games.
The following 2 fixtures saw defeats against strong teams from Barnard Castle and Norton. Lucinda gave the team a boost in these fixtures allowing Maddie some female company in a team top heavy with boys. Daniel and Toby stepping up from u13s also did well to hold their own against strong apponents.
The final fixture of the season brought a trip to Northallerton to play a new team to the D+C leagues, Bedale/Northallerton. Yarm scored a win to round the season off with Sam arriving hot from the football pitch (needing to shower before playing!) to join a team of Maddie, Toby and Ryan who all played some excellent squash.
Well done guys- keep it up over the summer and hopefully we get an early start to next seasons fixtures.
This season Yarm Squash club U13 team have been a pleasure to captain. I am so pleased with the commitment and the enthusiasm shown on and off the court. I hope they all keep playing during the summers months.
We played Leyburn first. I had a great game with Alec Fuller. The scores were close but Alec managed to win all three 15/13, 15/12 and 15/5.
Secondly we played Nunthorpe. Dominic had an excellent game with Henry. He took a game off him with the scores being 7/15 to Henry, 15/12 to Dominic and 6/15 to Henry.
Our third game was played against Barnard Castle School. Ryan took a clean sweep against Fergus. He won all his games and the team beat Barney 338 points to 244.
For the forth game was against Darlington. Daniel took another clean sweep winning all of his games, 15/2, 15/4 and 15/1.
Next were Bedale. This time we had three new juniors playing on the team: Ruth Fletcher, Olivia Fletcher and Anna Simpson my sister. They all played very well, each winning games in their opening matches. I hope they can play for the team again sometime soon.
The final game was against Norton. Leo played his second game for the team in this tough fixture. He played well again and the games were close, with scores being 15/5, 15/11 and 15/3
Overall we finished second in the division, winning against Darlington and Barney and narrowly losing to Bedale, Norton, Nunthorpe and Leyburn. Thanks and congratulations to the following for playing:
